Dessa Bluu creates Glass Mosaic Art.
Every piece of glass used in her creations is cut by hand.
Dessa started submitting her work to exhibitions in 2016, presenting her visions of “Pasifika Panache”.
Her art is created to standout, audacious and flamboyant and in alignment with her character. The pieces also depict her Pasifika and European heritages, her birth place of Aotearoa and the tenacity of everything she feels and imagines.
Recently there has been an artistic shift in her works, a new vista as she comes into her own, becoming more confident about who she is as an artist.
Dessa’s creative thinking is expanding and she is realising more of her strengths. Dessa’s intentions are to produce the “wow” factor through the art of mosaic and, above all else, inspire.
Thanks to the recent sale of one of her surfboards to a private collector in Germany, she has decided to specialise more in creating contemporary art in the spectrum of glass mosaic surfboards.
Dessa’s other creative passions are oil painting and writing. She paints while creating mosaic pieces and she loves to write, articulating this as her “ideal down time”. Dessa writes poems and makes up phrases and she is currently in the process of writing a book. Through the interpretation of her being in these art forms she is describing, she hopes the viewer is caught up with the passion involved.
In 2017 Dessa Bluu won 1st place in the Glass category at the Franklin Arts Festival held at the NZ Steel Gallery in Pukekohe. In 2018 she gained 2nd place in the Pasifika category at the NZ Mosaic Art Exhibition at the Estuary Arts Centre in Orewa and from that exhibition one of her pieces was featured in the NZ Artists Magazine. Dessa’s works have sold in numerous Galleries and many of her works are owned by private art collectors.
